GENERAL DUTIES

Manages a range of academic technologies to support College instructional goals. 

- Manages and supports the operations of University-wide and College-specific instructional technologies, multimedia centers, and/or research units
 

- Assures successful adaptation of new academic systems within the existing College environment 

- Communicates regularly and proactively with the academic systems user community concerning technology needs, new projects, and policies 

- Recommends and acquires technology upgrades and improvements 

- Serves as project manager for the introduction of new technology and equipment 

- Manages day-to-day operations, overseeing assigned staff 

- Performs related duties as assigned.

CUNY's School of Professional Studies (SPS), established in 2003, offers innovative undergraduate and graduate level courses, certificates and degree programs, including CUNY's first Online Baccalaureate and Master Degree Programs in Applied Theatre, Labor Studies and Disability Studies.  Drawing on CUNY's nationally and internationally renowned faculty and practitioners, SPS offers programs in a wide range of disciplines.  SPS is home to the Joseph S. Murphy Institute for Worker Education and Labor Studies and the Off-Campus College.  Each offers programs that provide educational opportunities to help working New Yorkers meet their career advancement and personal growth needs.  SPS's industry and educational partners include the American Museum of Natural History, the CUNY Creative Arts Team, CUNY's John F. Kennedy, Jr. Institute for Worker Education, The School of Public Affairs at Baruch College, the Lincoln Center Institute for Arts in Education and the City of New York's Office of Emergency Management Coastal Storm Plan Program. 

The Joseph S. Murphy Institute for Worker Education and Labor Studies is a collaboration between the University and New York City labor unions, for the purpose of serving the educational, policy and research needs of unions and their members.  The Institute is comprised of two centers.  The mission of the Center for Worker Education is to: 1) offer undergraduate and graduate programs to working adult students and union members; 2) expand access to colleges throughout the CUNY system; and 3) partner with labor unions and employers to address training and education needs of union members.  The Center for Labor, Community, and Policy Studies conducts research, offers leadership development programs, hosts forums and national conferences, publishes articles, books and a national labor journal to promote debate on issues critical to labor's future and its policy role. 

The Academic Technology Manager manages a range of academic technologies to support the Institute's instructional goals, and will have primary responsibility for developing systems that promote effective student services and retention across multiple colleges and campuses, and which enable better analysis of student data which are critical for the continued growth and funding of the Institute.  The Academic Technology Manager will also manage application development and data base design that integrates and tracks records of Institute students enrolled at various campuses throughout the CUNY system; establish standards, criteria, and guidelines with respect to design, implementation, and use of technology systems for the Institute, ensuring the integrity and security of all Institute technology systems, including database systems; provide programming that assures successful presentation of the Institute's programs and services; and will ensure compliance with institutional and personal data security standards as set forth by the University's Chief Security Officer.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and six years' relevant experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Advanced degree in related field or significant technology certifications. 
- Practical experience building data systems, analyzing data, and generating customized reports. 
- Practical experience in website design and programming. 
- Prior academic technology experience in Higher Education or Institute-related organization. 
- Experience in adult education and/or union education programs. 
- Knowledge of policies and practices in higher education. 
- Excellent presentation, written and oral communication skills. 
- Ability to work effectively with outside partners. 
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, demanding, and complex work environment, carry out complex assignments and adapt to changing situations and priorities.

COMPENSATION

$68,024 - $79,242

BENEFITS

CUNY offers a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification. Employees are also offered pension and Tax-Deferred Savings Plans.  Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits. Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria.
