Through CUNY's School of Professional Studies and Queens College, the Murphy Institute offers certificate programs at the undergraduate, graduate and advanced levels in Health Care Policy and Administration, Public Administration and Public Policy, Labor Relations, Labor Studies, and Transit Industry.

Health Care Policy and Administration
This certificate is designed to prepare professional administrators and other health care professionals with skills and knowledge needed to address the increasingly complex challenges they face, with a national health care system in disarray, a meteoric rise in chronic diseases and an ever-growing need for elder care services. The courses in this certificate will continually challenge students to critically analyze existing health care policies and to consider alternative solutions. The certificate is offered at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
1. Undergraduate Certificate in Health Care Policy and Administration
This undergraduate certificate program is intended to provide specialized knowledge needed by health care workers who wish to advance their careers and make more informed contributions to the field of health care administration and policy development. To earn an undergraduate certificate, students must complete the following four 4-credit courses for a total of 16 credits:

2. Graduate Certificate in Health Care Administration and Policy
This graduate certificate program is intended for health care workers who already hold a bachelor's degree. Students pursuing this certificate will apply what they learn to a critical examination of their own experience as workers in the health care industry. Courses not only expose students to policy debates in the field of health, but also develop their analytic capacity, through challenging readings, writing, and research assignments. To earn a graduate certificate, students must complete the following four 4-credit courses for a total of 16 credits:

Public Administration and Public Policy
The Public Administration and Public Policy certificate program provides students with both a theoretical and practical understanding of public administration, government systems and structures, and policy and decision-making strategies. It is offered on three levels:
1. The Undergraduate Certificate in Public Administration and Public Policy
The undergraduate certificate provides students with a substantial background in government, the process of policy-making, and public administration. To earn an undergraduate certificate, students must complete the following four 4-credit courses for a total of 16 credits.

Public Issues and Public Policy

2. The Graduate Certificate in Public Administration and Public Policy
The graduate certificate program is designed for students who hold a Bachelor’s degree. It offers a deeper understanding of public management, administrative decision-making, diversity, staff development and training, and union-management relations. To earn the graduate certificate, students must complete four out of the following five, 3-credit courses for a total of 12 credits:

Labor Relations
In partnership with Cornell's School of Industrial and Labor Relations, the Murphy Institute is offering a 16-credit undergraduate certificate that provides union members, officers and staff with practical knowledge, skills and resources needed to be an effective practitioners in the field of labor and industrial relations. The certificate also provides participants with a comprehensive examination of the changing nature of work, the impact of government policies, and the role of the labor movement in the social, economic and political development of modern society. The courses offered are 4 credits each:

Labor Studies
These programs examine topics related to work, workers, and their institutions. Courses examine the history and principles of organized labor as well as working-class life and culture, and focus on contemporary challenges facing unions today. These include changing demographics and the effects of globalization.
1. The Undergraduate Certificate in Labor Studies
To earn an undergraduate certificate, students must complete four of the following six, 4-credit courses for a total of 16 credits:

2. The Graduate Certificate in Labor Studies

U.S. Labor History from 1929 to Present (required of students who have not previously taken a labor history course)

Transit Industry
The continued modernization of public transit systems has important implications for urban communities and for the workforce that supports the transit industry. In partnership with CUNY's School of Professional Studies (SPS), and at the request of the Transport Workers Union Local 100/New York City Transit Authority Training and Upgrading Fund, the Murphy Institute offers two of three required courses that are part of the Transit Certificate Program (click on course titles for descriptions):

These courses are designed to provide transit workers with an enhanced understanding of their working environment and to prepare them for promotional opportunities within the industry.
